Alter / Altar at Quimby’s

I’ll be reading here at the end of the month!

Join us for an exciting reading and launch at Quimby’s of an incredibly special, experimental collective of creative voices from the “alter/altar” workshop series, led by OS creative director Lynne DeSilva-Johnson / Elæ (who will be the host / emcee for the evening).

The ‘alter/altar: sigil, soma, score, salve’ workshop community gathered this fall at Poets House for 6 wks, in a space dedicated to deconstructing the boundaries of “poetics,” considering and creating works that challenge genre, drawing on source texts and media, ephemera, detritus, found language, list-making, and the epistolary form—alongside somatic and social practice. We asked: can this work be a powerful, political act of radical self- and community-building? Of witness? Can it be an act of healing? YES.

Participants in this workshop created their own personal shot publications and/or zines alongside many other exciting interdisciplinary and archival projects––and have come together to collaborate on and design an alter/altar publication, which we will launch with this group reading, alongside new work from these incredible maker-writer-thinkers!

Readers / collaborators / altercators performing include: Marie Hinson, Maddy Durante, Christine Scanlon, Reese Francis, Becca Erwin, and Kinsey Cantrell.

We’re so happy to be at Quimby’s Bookstore NYC, a supporter of zine and small publication culture for so many years!

Accessibility: Quimby’s is on the ground floor, and accessible. Event will be seated, and free. Please refrain from wearing heavy scents!
